Role: Demand Forecasting Analyst
Overview: British Gas Business (BGB) is the leading energy provider to SMEs in the UK. We’re dedicated to helping our customers create a greener, fairer future. They currently have an exciting opportunity to join the British Gas Business Demand Forecasting team. You’ll have the chance to apply your technical skills to real-world problems and contribute to the future of the UK’s energy sector.
The Role:
Reporting to the Forecasting and Hedging Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
- Using your coding skills to monitor and enhance short- and long-term electricity forecasts
- Leading forecasting projects
- Providing analytical and data management support for energy forecasting activities
- Financial reporting of commodity costs
You’ll be involved in managing forecast production and validation, generating reports, developing and maintaining datasets, tools, and systems, as well as managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate:
As the ideal candidate, you’ll have some of the following qualifications and experiences:
- Experience in an energy forecasting role or analytical role related to energy pricing or trading
- Strong programming and data management skills, including SQL and either R or Python
- Experience with Power BI for creating management reports is desirable
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and numerical skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and resolve technical issues promptly
- Ability to take ownership and drive significant analytical work
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders, and prepare and present high-quality reports
